  Olive Dickerson (my mother nee Newman) did not have a father listed on her birth certificate and she never knew whether Ernest Orders her younger sister Gertrude's father was also her father although he was living with her mother when she was a young child (at the time of Gertrude's birth when Olive was 3 years old). Gertrude thought Olive was a full sister as opposed to their brothers Harold and Ernest who it appears very likely had had a different father or fathers since there is no indication that Ernest Orders was in the Ipswich area when they were born and in fact was just getting married to Henrietta elsewhere when the elder of them Harold was born. Oliver was in WW1 which started in Aug 1914 (my mother born in March 1915 would have been conceived in June 1914 before the war started so if Ernest was in peacetime army his whereabouts in 1914 might provide evidence for the likelihood of this parentage but we have had no luck after a paid search of the records. Oliver was in the regular army at the time of his marriage in 1905. Whether he stayed in the regular Army after his marriage is not known. He was certainly in WW1. One indication that he may be Olive's father is that his middle name is Oliver and hers is Olive; Olive's sister Gertrude Louisa was named after Ernest's sister Gertrude Louisa. Amy lived with Ernest Oliver Orders as a common law husband it is thought from about 1917 until her death. During all of this time he was married to Henrietta Asker. [17]
